BRB, Adding These ‘Harlem’ Filming Locations to My Must-Visit List

If you haven’t watched Harlem yet, what are you doing?? The Amazon Prime show premiered in December 2021 and has been my go-to drama ever since. I mean, it’s what the Sex and the City reboot was supposed to be, but better. The comedy show follows four Black girlfriends in their early-to-mid thirties navigating life, career, and romance in Harlem, New York. A 2023 spin on the sitcom Girlfriends but with better representation, acting, and storylines, tbh.

What makes Harlem so different (and refreshing) is how it brings Black joy to the screen by highlighting the historic Black neighborhood. Unlike other New York-centered shows like Gossip Girl and Sex and the City, Harlem purposefully shows viewers the beauty of Harlem, from the creative “Black Power” murals to the wide shots of Striker’s Row.

And now that the second season has dropped, we have more clips and stills of Harlem. From restaurants to sex shops, here are all the Harlem filming locations for when you want to visit them IRL. There are some light spoilers below for the episodes of Harlem season 2 that are already on Amazon, btw.

Camille’s Visit to Ian’s Home: Strivers’ Row

After Camille ruins Ian’s wedding, she stupidly (yes, I meant to say that) decides to visit his family home to apologize to his parents for 1) kissing Ian, 2) getting caught by Ian’s fiancé, Mira, and 3) costing the family over $50,000 in wedding damages.

While we can all agree that Camille’s choices were questionable, you gotta admit: That red brick brownstone is stunning. If you’re gonna visit it in person, be aware the house is a private residence, so you can’t, like, sit on the steps and have an Instagram shoot. For that reason only, I will be sticking to Internet stalking, TYVM.

Quinn and Tye’s Visit to the Sex Shop: The Pleasure Chest West Village

First episode of the second season: newbie bisexual Quinn is nervous about having sex with a woman, so she hits up Tye, and the two venture downtown to shop at The Pleasure Chest. While the name sounds fictitious, it is indeed a real-life sex shop located in the West Village and Upper East Side. You can find vibrators, dildos, strap-ons, anal beads, or whatever toy you need right here in NYC. And for my non-New York readers, they also deliver!

Angie, Tye, Camille, and Quinn’s Go-to Brunch Spot: Lucille’s (aka Luelle’s in the show)

One of my favorite shots from this season has to be at Lucille’s. (FYI, it’s named Luelle’s in the show). The colorful purple and pink murals, green walls, and sunset orange couches give off such a homey and down-to-earth vibe. Unfortunately, the decor was only for the set design, but I promise the coffee shop is just as beautiful and cozy in real life as it is in the show.

Conservatory Garden at Central Park

Okay, I can’t reveal too much here for fear of spoiling things, but Conservatory Garden at Central Park is another shooting location for this season. It’s absolutely beautiful in real life, especially in the spring. Definitely check it out if you’re in New York.

Another location that I refuse to spoil the plot for, but I’m putting it here for your research purposes! This Black-owned restaurant has been operated for nearly 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down. The lines are down the block on weekday nights and all day on weekends. If New Yorkers are willing to wait 2+ hours in 20-degree weather for some fried fish, the food gotta be good. A must-visit for any locals or travelers!

This spaced is used for a private event at one point during the season, and it is absolutely STUNNING. Like, can I please have my next birthday party here?

Casa Del Sol Bed & Breakfast, San Juan

Sorry to sound like a broken record at this point but I’m still maintaining my “no spoilers” agenda. I will tell you that this hotel does factor into season 2, though. The beach views? White and yellow brick? And, the archways curated with greenery? On-site daily breakfast with personal concierge services?? I’m booking my trip RN.

This hotel sits right in the heart of old San Juan and overlooks the town square. Decorated Spanish architecture, bright yellow walls, and brick-painted archways, it’s equal parts historical and modern. You’ll just have to wait to see where it shows up in the season.
