Prince William will no longer be traveling to the United States later this month, Us Weekly reports. William was scheduled to visit New York City for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 21, which falls within the royals official extended mourning period.
The palace announced the mourning period on their website:
“Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, it is His Majesty The King’s wish that a period of Royal Mourning be observed from now until seven days after The Queen’s Funeral. The date of the Funeral will be confirmed in due course. Royal Mourning will be observed by Members of the Royal Family, Royal Household staff and Representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to Ceremonial Duties.”
William and Kate are expected to attend the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston in December, which were initially announced on Twitter by William who said “In 2022, we’re back and bringing Earthshot to the USA, where we’ll award the next five winners of the prize.”

While William didn’t confirm that Kate Middleton would be accompanying him, Town & Country reported that they’d “both be traveling to the U.S. and are both expected to attend the ceremony.”
The Prince of Wales released a statement regarding his grandmother’s passing on September 11, writing “On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader, whose commitment to the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the days ahead about the meaning of her historic reign. I, however, have lost a grandmother. And while I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of the queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade. My wife has had twenty years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives. She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real.”
