Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has addressed recent reports regarding her correspondence with King Charles III.
The duchess has given a response to media speculation following a report published yesterday by The Telegraph, which revealed new details of her correspondence with the monarch following Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a statement to Bazaar.com, Ashley Hansen, global press secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, says that claims that Meghan is not attending King Charles’ coronation over the matter are “ridiculous.”
“The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous. We encourage tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that they alone are creating,” Hansen says.

Per the Telegraph report, the duchess’s letter was allegedly sent in response to correspondence the then-Prince of Wales, in which he expressed his sadness over tension within the family. Meghan allegedly wrote to Charles that she didn’t intend to accuse the royal family member of racism during the Oprah interview, but instead wanted to discuss unconscious bias.
At one point in the televised sit-down interview, Meghan revealed that “there were concerns and conversations” within the royal family about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin color would be once he was born. According to the outlet, the letter named the individual who speculated about Archie’s skin tone, but Charles and Meghan both agreed that the remark had been “an innocent observation.”
Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace and an Archewell spokesperson confirmed to BAZAAR.com that neither Meghan nor her and Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will join the duke the Duchess of Sussex as he attends the coronation. Archie’s fourth birthday, which falls on the same day as the king’s coronation, has influenced Meghan’s decision to remain in California with her children, BAZAAR understands.
