Being a stepmom can be hard — even before your husband mysteriously goes missing. In this exclusive clip from the fourth episode of Apple TV+’s “The Last Thing He Told Me,” Jennifer Garner’s Hannah and Angourie Rice’s Bailey continue their investigation into where Bailey’s dad Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) might be. As the pair search through old records, Hannah tries to connect with her stepdaughter, who’s still reeling from the information they’ve found so far and the questions it raises about her identity.
Earlier this month, Rice, 22, talked to POPSUGAR about the connection between Hannah and Bailey in the series. “Olivia Newman, who directed three of the episodes and is an executive producer as well, pitched it to me as a mother-daughter love story, which I really loved,” the actor explained. “It’s about two women who don’t know how to be in each other’s lives. And throughout the course of the story, they learn how to do that.” She added that before filming began, she, Garner, and the series’s writers sat down to read through the scripts and chart the path of Hannah and Bailey’s tenuous bond.
Garner also reunites with her “Alias” costar Victor Garber in the show’s new episode, which hits Apple TV+ on Friday, April 28. Of their scenes together, Garner, 51, who starred in “Alias” with Garber from 2001 to 2006, told POPSUGAR, “The only real problem I had was that I could not stop smiling at him during moments where I was supposed to be quite concerned.” She explained, “Our showrunner, Josh Singer, had to keep coming in to whisper in my ear, ‘Stop smiling at Victor. Be Hannah, don’t be Jennifer.'”
“But I couldn’t help it,” Garner added. “I just love him too much.”
