Karl Lagerfeld’s Cat Choupette Is Richer Than You, Me, and Most Celebrities

Attention cat people: Please look down and ascertain the fluffy blob who has rudely taken over your lap. Quick question while you ponder her absolute audacity: How much is your cat worth? If the answer is several thousand dollars in unpaid vet bills, the living legend known as Choupette simply cannot relate.

For the uninitiated, Choupette is late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s fluffy white cat, who has more money than any human being I know. Never thought I’d say this but: I want what this cat has. Specifically, a chic Parisian apartment full of archival Chanel.

First of All, Who Is Choupette?

WHO ISN’T SHE? As we’ve ascertained, Choupette is Karl Lagerfeld’s cat who appeared with him pretty much everywhere. If you really want to get into it, Choupette is a “blue-cream tortie Birman” (*pretends to know what that means*) who was born on August 15 2011. She was gifted to Karl by model Baptiste Giabiconi due to Karl and Choupette forming an immediate connection.

“Choupette is such a strange thing because I never thought that I could fall in love with an animal like this,” Karl told CNBC. “She’s a world famous star. She has her own fortune–for the things she did in Japan and in Germany, for cars and things like that.”

“She’s over-groomed and everything. She has several maids,” Karl added. “She’s never alone when I’m not there. Oh no no… Even if she sleeps, she doesn’t want to be alone. She’s like a chic lady, like a kept woman with her personal maid.”

Choupette Makes Most of Her Money From Sponcon

Much like your favorite D-list celebrities, Choupette’s income is largely driven by sponsorships and endorsements. As Karl told The Cut, she earned $3 million during 2014 alone.

“Choupette became the most famous cat in the world, and the richest. She did two jobs and made 3 million euros last year,” Karl explained. “One was for cars in Germany and the other was for a Japanese beauty product. I don’t allow her to do foodstuffs and things like this. She’s too sophisticated for that. She had something unique. She is like a human being, but the good thing is that she’s silent. You don’t have to discuss it. She hates other animals and she hates children.”

So What Is Choupette’s Net Worth?

Please grab something to hold onto, because, according to cats.com (which appears to be experts on this subject), Choupette has a net worth of $13 million. It’s unclear if all of this is her own earnings (she works hard for her money!), but rumor has it that Choupette inherited a solid chunk of Karl’s $300 million fortune. And to say she’s enjoying her money is an understatement. Like, here she is just hanging on her own private jet:

And here she is chilling with Kim Kardashian ahead of the 2023 Met Gala:

And speaking of the Met Gala, you can definitely expect Choupette to be there! At least according to her personal agent, who mused,“She got the invitation. It’s an event in honor of the legacy of Karl, and Choupette is obviously a central part of the legacy.”

Anyway, gonna go back to pondering how this literal cat has more money that I can even begin to contemplate, bye.
