Here’s a hard truth: there is no such thing as “spooky season.” Watch a horror movie in July like an adult! And where better to begin than with one of the most successful modern horror franchises? The Conjuring’s humble beginnings followed a haunted house and a pair of paranormal investigators/lovebirds, Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Since the original film in 2013, the lore has expanded to include possessed dolls, evil nuns, and countless hauntings.
The Conjuring Cinematic Universe breaks down over The Conjuring and Annabelle trilogies, two movies dedicated to The Nun, and a standalone horror. Between these 9 movies, the Conjuring lore twists and turns through time, which means the best way to watch them differs from the order of theatrical release.
If you’re looking for the series breakdown in order of chronological release, you’d be watching it wrong. That said, if that’s what you’re looking for, here’s the order. Start with The Conjuring, moving onto Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, The Curse of La Llorona, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and finishing with The Nun 2.

Once you’ve caught up on the below 20 hours of cinema, gird your loins, there is more coming. In April, Warner Bros. announced a forthcoming Conjuring film, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and HBO Max is currently developing a Conjuring series which will continue the story that ties together the CCU.
Until then, here is every movie from The Conjuring Cinematic Universe, in the order you should watch them.

The most modern Conjuring tale takes place in 1981, beginning with the Warrens’ investigation and exorcism of a possessed 8-year-old boy. During the exorcism, the spirit exits the child’s body and enters an adult member of the family, Arne Johnson, who goes on to kill his landlord. This Conjuring film explores legal ramifications in a way the other films don’t, with the Warrens working to support Johnson in court. His case, known as the “Devil Made Me Do It” case, was the first known court case to argue demonic possession as a criminal defense. Other haunted things occur in this film, too, though.
