All the Movies You’ll Be Dying To See in 2023


I have some really great news for you: It’s going to be a truly excellent year in movies. TV seems to have been dominating the cultural zeitgeist lately, (the weeks spent trying to figure out the killer in White Lotus season 2 will stay with me forever) but the movies are where it’s at. Have you been to the theater lately? It’s popping. It’s fun. It’s a communal experience. The popcorn is great. Because it’s only January, we’re to discuss not only the few movies that have come out this year already that you need to watch, but all the ones you should be looking forward to it. Let’s get into it.

This movie earned a spot on the list last year when the dance went viral, TBH. Thankfully, the actual movie lived up to the hype.

Anna Konkle and Jermaine Fowler star in this hilarious comedy as Lex and Mani, a couple contemplating becoming parents when Lex drops a friend’s baby on vacation. An existential dread spiral quickly follows.

Yes, I did also include this in a roundup of the best movies of 2022, because it premiered in 2022. But technically it hit theaters in 2023, so it still counts! This movie follows a group of women who have been suffering abuse at the hands of the men in their community for years, and have to decide whether they can actually leave it behind.

‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’

Channing Tatum is back, baby! And he’s teaming up with Salma Hayek Pinault for this final entry into the Magic Mike movie trilogy. Even if it’s bad, it’ll be great.

This movie premiered this week at the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s so good that it already earned a spot on the list. Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich play a couple working in finance, and things start to ho haywire when Phoebe’s character gets a promotion over Alden’s. This one’s coming to Netflix.

This movie also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this week, so there’s no trailer yet, but it’s so, so good. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays a writer who overhears her husband (Tobias Menzies) say that he doesn’t like her latest book. If you’ve literally ever had a fight with a significant other, this one’s for you.

After literal years of waiting, we are finally getting Halle Bailey‘s Little Mermaid movie. I got chills just hearing the song in the teaser trailer, so the whole movie will likely make me sob nostalgic tears.

I’m not totally sure what to expect from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, but whatever she’s going for, it’s definitely going to be interesting.

‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’

Three words for you: more Hunger Games. Rachel Zegler stars in this spinoff series, which takes place years before the original series.

Release date: November 17, 2023

DUUUUUUUUUUUUNE (part 2). Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet are back, and Florence Pugh and Austin Butler are joining the party. Hell yes.
