Allow the Cast of ‘The Watchful Eye’ to Introduce You to Their Characters


Welcome to The Greybourne, the mysterious building located on the Upper East Side where only the richest of NYC’s elite live. This is where all the wild and spooky things happen in Freeform’s latest series, The Watchful Eye, and there are plenty of secrets hiding behind these walls. And while you can’t actually go see the building IRL to try to suss out clues, we got to visit the set and hear from the cast themselves about their characters and what they’ll be up to. Before you hit play and start unraveling the mystery behind it all, let the cast tell you everything you need to know about who they’re really playing…and even drop a few hints about what to expect.

The Watchful Eye character: Elena

Age: 30

How I would describe my character: “Elena is resilient. She is compassionate, and she’s torn. She is doing the best that she can given the tools she has. Family is what drives and motivates her, and love and wanting a better life than the life that she’s been dealt in the past.”

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Mystery, ominous, and noir.”

The Watchful Eye character: Matthew

Age: 47

How I would describe my character: “Matthew Ward is a self-made architect who has married into this very rich, very powerful Greybourne family. In the opening, we find out he’s recently widowed with an eight-year-old son. So he’s kind of a guy who’s a bit broken and who’s really trying to keep an eye on and take care of his son.”

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Edge-of-your-seat. That’s three words, right?”

The Watchful Eye character: Tory

Age: 46

How I would describe my character: “Tory is the woman that you love to hate. She’s Upper East Side. She’s a perfectionist. She’s very protective of her family and their name and history. She’s complicated. She really does present herself as a kind of cold and harsh person. She says what she wants to say, and she doesn’t really seem to care about who it hurts. But as you get further into the series and you learn about her family history and what’s happened to her, you kind of see why she’s built these walls, and they sort of start to collapse.

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Genre-blending, mystery, and sexy.”

The Watchful Eye character: Mrs. Ivey

Age: 78

More about her character: “A lifelong resident of The Greybourne who rules the roost and is accustomed to getting her way through a potent combination of wealth, power, and sheer force of will. “

The Watchful Eye character: Scott

Age: 39

How I would describe my character: “Scott has a relationship going on with Elena, and I kind of get her involved in this whole snowball of a storyline. Which the viewers will have to watch to see exactly why and what that is. He’s a guy, like anybody else who is conflicted, trying to go through life struggles while creating a better life for himself. “

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Surprising, suspenseful, and sublime.”

The Watchful Eye character: Elliot

Age: 17

How I would describe my character: “Elliot is this cool, kind, smart, and precocious kid. Although he does seem like he knows all the answers, he’s still a teenager and he learns more along the way. One of the things I love about Elliot is the more that we find out about him as the show goes on, the more we fall in love with him and the more relatable he comes. He learns from Elena, especially about girls. “

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Stressful, spooky, and layered. ”

The Watchful Eye character: Ginny

Age: 22

How I would describe my character: “Ginny is the fun, flirty best friend that everybody needs. She wears her heart on her sleeve. I think she’s one of the more genuine characters and I really enjoy playing that. She’s a leader, she’s a boss. And definitely instigates a lot of the shenanigans that happens, but I love those kinds of people.”

Three words to describe The Watchful Eye: “Spicy, thrilling, and unpredictable.”

The Watchful Eye character: Jasper
