On the Golden Globes red carpet this week, Andrew Garfield couldn’t stop talking about astrology.
In two interview clips, Andrew talks about 1) Sun/Moon synastry and 2) Saturn Returns. This is Astro 202 level info, people!!! This goes beyond knowing your Sun sign, or even your Big Three (that’s your Sun, Moon, and Rising sign, for people who are still in Astro 101).
In one viral clip, Andrew and Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg flirt it up, astrologically, with dialogue that could have come straight out of a rom com. Like so:
In case you can’t spare the two minutes and sixteen seconds to watch the video, Amelia invites Andrew to her birthday party, and he asks her for her zodiac sign, which is Aquarius… the same as his Moon sign. And then the following exchange occurs:
Andrew: If you have a Sun sign that’s the same as the Moon sign of someone else…
Amelia: It’s not good?
Andrew: No, it’s good.
Amelia: Oh, it’s good! Why is that an issue?
Andrew: Well, because I just don’t think we should explore this.
Amelia: Okay, well I won’t even ask you to. You’re the one who’s obsessed with me!
Andrew: I know, that’s what I’m saying. I’m scared of what it can turn into, and I’m not ready for that kinda thing.
Amelia: Oh okay, well I am.
Anyone else blushing right now? And yes, Andrew is right: Having the same Sun sign as your S.O.’s Moon sign, or vice-versa, is a major indicator of astrological compatibility.
“He’s right,” says astrologer Lisa Stardust, author of the Love Deck. “When it comes to astrological synastry, when your have your Sun conjunct someone else’s Moon, it’s an intense energy, but what it really speaks to is longevity in relationships. It’s probably one of the best signs for astrological compatibility.”
Stardust adds that this doesn’t just apply to romantic relationships; it’s a major indicator of compatibility in friendships, too. “The Moon shows our emotional side, and the Sun is this vibrant energy, all-encompassing, truth-telling,” they say. “There is an intuitive connection where the person with the Sun sign can verbalize what the person with the Moon sign is feeling.” It’s likely that these two people have a lot in common, like favorite foods and movies, too.
In another, not-quite-so-viral clip from the Golden Globes, Andrew brings up Saturn Returns in a red carpet interview with Variety’s Marc Malkin, who reveals that it’s his birthday. “Happy birthday, happy 27th birthday,” Andrew says. “It’s the beginning of your Saturn Return, it’s gonna be a hard time.”

This info also checks out: Your Saturn Return occurs when Saturn ~returns~ to where it was in the sky when it was born, which happens when you’re somewhere between the ages of 27 and 31. In astrology, it’s a major coming-of-age moment, and yes, it’s associated with some difficulty.
It turns out that the Golden Globes red carpet isn’t the first time Andrew has mentioned astrology, either. Get ready for a list!
As Cosmo’s senior astrology editor, I am obviously here for this. More celebs volunteering info about the details of their birth charts, please! There are too many “Birth time accuracy: Weak” notes on celebrity birth chart websites, and it is time for that to change. And knowing that Andrew is an astrology fan, I have some questions for him:
- What’s your horoscope app of choice? Co-Star? Sanctuary? The Pattern? Time Passages???? I must know!
- Is astrology a pandemic hobby, or were you already into it?
- Have you read You Were Born For This?
- Looking at your dating history, you seem to be drawn to A) fellow fire signs and B) Scorpios. Thoughts???
And Andrew, if you ever want to chat about that Venus Retrograde in your birth chart, call me. I’m a Scorpio.
