After her very dramatic relationship with Peter Townsend and before (actually, during, lol) her equally dramatic relationship with Roddy Llewellyn, Princess Margaret was married to Antony Armstrong-Jones—aka Lord Snowdon. Margaret and Antony were together for 18 years before splitting up in 1976, and they have two children together: David and Sarah. Who, considering their mother was in the news literally non-stop, stay pretty under the radar these days. Like, have you ever heard of them??

Time to get to know Princess Margaret’s children a little better.
David Armstrong-Jones
Meet David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, former Viscount Linley. This posh fellow is 60 years old, was a former chairman of Christie’s auction house, and is a furniture maker. Here he is as a little wee bb with his mom:
And here he is looking extremely jaunty in some knee socks (10/10 will be wearing this outfit in October):
David has been pretty low-key for the past few years, but now his cousin (that’d be Charles) is King, we’ll definitely see him around more. For starters, he joined the royals’ walk behind the Queen’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster and was also seen walking in her funeral procession.
Some fancy highlights of David’s life? He was born in Clarence House (where King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have been living), Queen Elizabeth II was his godmother, and he spent a lot of time chilling at various royal palaces in his youth. Normal childhood stuff we can all relate to!
Nowadays, David has his own furniture and home goods company called Linley, the vibes of which are pretty much what you’d expect. Here, have fun purchasing this $3,843 chess board.
In terms of his personal life, David was married to a Viscount’s daughter named Serena Alleyne Stanhope (they split in 2020), which yes, sounds like the premise to a future season of Bridgerton/any given romance novel. Apparently, Serena descends from one of King Charles II’s “illegitimate” children! Cool!
Anyway, these two have kids of their own, and their daughter Margarita Armstrong-Jones was one of the bridesmaids at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Here she is with Pippa!
Oh, and in other David news, he was the victim of an extortion plot by people who attempted to release incriminating video footage of him. They were arrested and sent to prison. Anyway, moving on to David’s sister—but not before we all gaze in awe at this photo:
Lady Sarah Chatto
Lady Sarah Chatto is Margaret and Antony’s only daughter, and she turned 56 this past May. Here she is as a baby with her parents and older brother:
And here she is serving looks a teen with Princess Diana (she’s stunning!):
And speaking of Diana, Sarah was a bridesmaid at Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding, as well as at Princess Anne‘s wedding. Her outfits at both events are the best thing I’ve maybe ever seen?
Lady Sara is also Prince Harry’s godmother and was incredibly close to the Queen:
She was seen at Her Majesty’s funeral wearing a cluster of giant diamond brooches on her lapel called “The Snowdon Floral Brooches,” a gift from her mom Princess Margaret.
Nowadays, Sarah (who is a professional artist) is married to Daniel Chatto—whom she met while visiting India. Which brings us to this incredibly chic photo from their wedding:

Anyway, Sarah and Daniel have two kids and seem to lead a relatively chill life! Here they are with their mom at the Platinum Jubilee:
Reminder: Tony Also Fathered Another Child
Before we go, casual reminder that Tony had a daughter named Polly in May 1960, just a few weeks before his royal wedding to Princess Margaret. Polly didn’t find out that Tony was her father until later in life, and in 2008 she spoke about the situation to the Daily Mail, saying, “I have no memories to savor of being thrown high into the air, pushed on swings, or riding on the handlebars of the bike of a doting father. But you don’t miss what you never had.” She also said that “finding out at the age of 45 that the man I had idolized and put on a pedestal higher than Nelson’s Column since I was a small child was not in fact my father was a hard burden to bear.”
Tony *also* had a daughter named Frances during his second marriage and fathered a son named Jasper during an affair. The more you know!
