Kate Middleton and Prince William Went Out in Matching Navy Outfits Because Why Not

Kate Middleton and Prince William went out for a joint event today at The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton, and they continued a longtime practice of theirs: couple dressing. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wore matching navy outfits to the event. William was in a dark sweater, light blue collared top, navy blazer, and trousers. Kate wore a white collared top, polka dot blue blouse, a long navy Catherine Walker coat, and trousers with heels.

The Duke and Duchess’s joint appearance comes shortly after they marked their 10-year wedding anniversary. Kate waited nine years for William to propose after they first started dating in college.

In honor of the milestone, People spoke to a college dorm mate of theirs, Laura Warshauer, who explained how evident their connection and chemistry was to their fellow University of St. Andrews classmates.

“Whenever Kate was in the room, Will was obviously paying attention to her,” Warshauer said. “When we’d be sitting at lunch in the dining hall and the two of them would be talking, it was amazing to see how natural it was, how they had so much to say to each other. Looking back, there were all these small moments—certainly moments where I was like, ‘Wow, this could really be something.’”

Kate, by the way, literally changed colleges to go to school with William and make their relationship happen.

“Kate was very strategic,” The Crown historian Robert Lacey told ELLE.com in November. “She gave up her place at one of Britain’s premier universities, Edinburgh, and opted for another one [St. Andrews] that probably didn’t have the same academic standard. She had already been to Edinburgh to get her flat accommodations sorted out but switched universities and switched her courses to history of art because that was William’s. She delayed her own education by a year and even takes the chance she won’t get into St. Andrews.”

“Kate eventually accepted the idea that she would have to do a long apprenticeship,” he added. “William didn’t want to marry until he was 30. She waited nine years, but, in the end, she got him at 28, so there’s another strategic accomplishment on her part.”
