Did you know that Questlove hosts game nights with huge groups of celebrities and music industry insiders and that they look like the absolute best time? Because he does and they do and Taylor Swift was on the guest list for his Uno tournament/chill famous people house party on Thursday night in New York City.
Other famous humans in attendance at the shindig included Jason Sudeikis, SNL star Michael Che and comedian Mike Birbiglia, as well as Taylor’s backup singer Melanie Nyema, all of whom gathered to play more versions of Uno than most people are aware exist (including, according to Us Weekly, Uno Dare Adults Only, Uno House Rules, Giant Uno and Uno Flip!).
Taylor was snapped in several pictures that found their way into various Instagram grids and stories and something about the faces she made in some of the pics led some fans to speculate that she had been smoking marijuana at the party.
FWIW, for the most part, the “OMG Taylor was smoking” speculation was positive, if a bit surprised (think “OMG, Taylor smokes?”):
And then, of course, there were also plenty of people who were only surprised that anyone was even a little surprised by the idea of Taylor smoking:
But the best response to the speculation is a cautionary tale about a girl named Becky, who: a) was once happy and popular; b) died *instantly* snorting marijuana just one time; and c) is definitely Becky (not Taylor Swift).
That’s right. The “no, it’s becky” meme is having an organic moment in 2023. Let’s just take a moment to appreciate that.
For anyone who didn’t spend most of 2014 trolling Tumblr, getting up to speed on the “no, it’s becky” meme is very simple. Step one: Look at the picture of the girl in the screenshot below and realize instantly it’s very clearly a photo of a young Taylor Swift.
Step two: Read the actual text of the Tumblr exchange in the screenshot:
Step three: Take a deep breath and appreciate the fact that everything about this exists.
Since Taylor Swift seems to have spent about 97 percent of her free time trolling Tumblr herself and replied by stepping out in this “no, its becky” shirt:
Taylor hasn’t commented on the “weed party” speculation, but Questlove has, and he made it clear there was no weed party in a poetic Instagram caption that read:
“I’m the king of @uno
There is none higher
Cole wasn’t there
He got fired
readin ‘lot of gossip
Of what transpired
Was not a “weed party”
They all liars!!!(Sung to @RunDMC’s #KingOfRock)”
