While “The Summer I Turned Pretty” season one introduced many fresh elements to the story that might have surprised OG book-lovers (like romance plot lines for characters who only had a minor presence in the book series), it largely stays true to Han’s book. For that reason, fans can look to the second book in the series, “It’s Not Summer Without You,” for an idea of what’s to come in the tumultuous story of Belly, Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah’s (Gavin Casalegno) beachside love triangle.
Season one ends with Belly and Conrad sharing a long-awaited kiss. The only problem? Jeremiah, who had begun pursuing a romantic relationship with Belly, doesn’t know this. Season two will likely pick up with Belly having to choose between her two lifelong friends. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Though the season one finale offered fans some hope for Susannah (Rachel Blanchard), Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother, after she begrudgingly agrees to receive chemotherapy treatment for her cancer, if the show follows the events of the book series, season two may pick up after Susannah dies. Grieving the loss of his mother, Conrad is more closed off than ever, and as a result, his budding relationship with Belly crumbles.
However, an impromptu summer road trip with Jeremiah takes shape when Belly learns that Conrad has suddenly disappeared. As the trio heads back to the beach house one last time, they come to terms with their inner turmoil and gain some clarity in the process. The question remains: will the second season stick to the book? We’ll have to wait and see.
