‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Fans Found a Huge Plot Hole in This Week’s Episode

[There are spoilers ahead for this week’s episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. If you haven’t watched yet, come back to this post at another time!]

In the newest episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, audiences finally got to see June escape Gilead. Thank—and I cannot stress this enough—god. It’s been four seasons in the making, but she made it to Canada with the help of Moira (Moira!). The transition didn’t come without its challenges, though, and fans found a major plot hole in just how June made it into that country to the north.

While Moira and Oona are on the boat to Canada arguing over what to do with June, they talk about how all their future aid missions will be in jeopardy, because harboring June is so risky. There are some things happening here that have raised some eyebrows with fans, though.

Oona (Moira’s girlfriend) pushed to turn June in, but that doesn’t really work, one Reddit user pointed out. “If June was given up to Gilead, no way [the aid workers] would be let free! If they were caught with public enemy number one, there’s no way that Gilead would buy that they were duped, and [Gilead] would want to kill everybody aboard or sink the boat. It’s right for Oona & co. to be mad, but they should have started thinking about the best plan to hide June from the get-go, because turning her in would have been just as problematic for them (if not more) than trying to hide her.” Okay, that’s fair.

And then there’s the whole thing with Moira’s name. Fans pointed out that Moira would probably be on a Gilead watchlist for being friends with June, so it’s totally risky for Moira to give her real name when interacting with Gilead police. She did say she was from Canada, but still! Seems fishy!

Either way, it’s a good thing June made it to safety, but there’s still so, so much to wrap up in this plot. We’ll see where this goes. Also, can someone please let us know if Janine is alive??
