Stop what you’re doing (preparing to judge everyone’s Met Gala looks while wearing sweats, I get it): Blake Lively just announced that she will not be attending the 2023 Met Gala after all. Blake famously knocks it out of the park at this event, often in dresses that match the carpet, but fashion’s night out will have to cope without her this year.

Despite being in New York, Blake confirmed she will be skipping the Met Gala on Monday. The star was at the re-opening of the Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue in NYC on Thursday when People reporters asked whether fans would see her on the famed red carpet, and she said, “You will not. But I will be watching.”

Why? Well, Blake says she has other plans… namely watching from afar, but not in cozy clothes like just anyone. At the same Tiffany event when reporters complimented Blake’s 2022 Met Gala look, she joked, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”

Blake and her husband Ryan Reynolds welcomed their fourth child earlier this year, so needless to say they have been pretty busy. Blake always does the very most at the Met Gala, last year wearing a Versace gown that referenced the Statue of Liberty for the theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Like, her train even had the iconic constellation ceiling from Grand Central Station, THAT was her level of commitment. Which, by the way, was also a subtle nod to Gossip Girl.

As Blake put it to Vogue, “Grand Central felt like a sort of a really neat full-circle moment because the first shot of Gossip Girl, I’m on a train, and I pull into the station, and it’s a shot of Grand Central station.” She also noted that New York has played a “critical part” in who she is, saying “it’s the love of my life, other than my family.”
