Taylor Swift hasn’t attended a Met Gala since 2016, and—hate to break it to you but—2023 was not the year she made her triumphant return.
There was a ton of speculation that Taylor would be at the Met—marking her first official red carpet appearance since breaking up with her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn. And said speculation reached a fever pitch after she was papped having dinner with friends in NYC, where the Met Gala is held every year. But alas!
So why didn’t Taylor show? She hasn’t commented on the subject, but chances are she needs a break from the spotlight between tour dates. Just guessing!
If this is the case, it’s pretty understandable: Taylor’s breakup is still very fresh. Entertainment Tonight reports that she and Joe parted ways just a couple months ago, while a People insider revealed that “Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public. The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”
Taylor has been busy killing it on her Eras Tour since the breakup was announced, and she subtly indicated that she’s doing well a few days back in Tampa—giving a thumbs-up to a fan who held up a sign reading “You OK?” during her performance of “Delicate.”
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming! (Aka reading into why she deleted that “Lavender Haze” video from her Insta).
