Drew Barrymore Keeps Her Kids’ iPads “Locked in a Safe” for a Very Specific Reason

Drew Barrymore is not about to let her kids be staring at their phones all day, and has a somewhat unexpected method for reducing screen-time in her household. She straight-up locks their iPads in a safe.

Speaking to Better Homes & Gardens about her house rules, Drew said:

“We watch a ton of movies and shows so I’m not judging anyone about screens. But when it comes to my kids, I’m not a huge fan of personal electronics, like iPads. During the pandemic when schools were virtual, we were forced into all being on our separate devices and I didn’t like it. Now, I keep the iPads locked in a safe and they only come out for special occasions. I’d rather that the three of us all pile into my bed and watch together.”

The rest of Drew’s house rules are mostly to do with design (she doesn’t like overhead lighting, thinks floors and ceilings should be given just as much decor love as walls, and prefers lots of small rooms vs. one big open concept), but she did have this to say about family time:

“I have a tattoo that says ‘home is where we are’, and it’s true. Wherever I am with my girls I feel like I’m at home. Even if we’re just at a restaurant, I pour out the contents of my bag—my camera, my crossword puzzle, my lip balm, my book, a deck of cards—and we’re right at home.”

Honestly, love it. Also before we go, must re-watch this gem for the millionth time:
