Priscilla Presley Had a Truly Emotional Reaction to Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’

While Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis had a major cinematic moment last year, it’s time for the late musical icon’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, to shine with her own movie. Sofia Coppola—the award-winning filmmaker behind Lost In Translation and The Bling Ring, among other cinematic masterpieces, of course—has adapted a biopic about Priscilla’s life in the ’60s for A24, and it recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Monday, September 4.

Priscilla, which stars Cailee Spaeny as the titular character and Jacob Elordi as Elvis, tells the enthralling and turbulent love story of the pop culture stars from their introduction to their fast-paced, fame-filled marriage. And now, it officially has the real Priscilla’s stamp of approval.

After the movie premiered, Priscilla took a mic and shared her thoughts on Sofia’s film with the audience. “It’s very difficult to sit and watch a film about you and about your life and about your love,” Priscilla said through tears.

She went on to praise the biopic, admitting she and the director had only “spoken a couple of times.”

“Sofia did an amazing job, she did her homework… And I really put everything out for her that I could,” Priscilla added.

According to ComingSoon, Priscilla said she was “so struck” with the movie’s “unusual” setting. “She goes through all of the things that all girls go through growing up into womanhood—her first kiss and becoming a mother—all of these moments I could relate to, but in this very unusual setting that we’re so curious to know.”

When it comes to her breakup with Elvis, Priscilla admitted it wasn’t because they didn’t love each other, but rather because of the fast-paced environment that came with Elvis’ rise to fame. “It was the lifestyle that was so difficult for me, and I think any woman can relate to that,” she said. “But it didn’t mar our relationship, we still remained very close. And of course, we had our daughter, and I made sure that he saw her all the time. It was like we never left each other.”
