You know how the internet’s spent the past week fully convinced that Taylor Swift is secretly coming out with a memoir? Yeah, apparently not. Full explainer this way, but the speculation originated from Good Neighbor Bookstore, who posted a theory to TikTok based on info that a publisher sent about a ~top secret~ book dropping on July 9. The publisher requested that the video be deleted, which made things all the more suspicious.
The first major clue linking the memoir to Taylor was its July 9th publication date, mostly thanks to this tweet from Taylor announcing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version):
Plus, there’s the fact that Taylor started her Speak Now announcement with “Dear Reader,” and the fact that the memoir in question is 544 pages long (5+4+4=13, Tay’s favorite and much-referenced number).
It all sounds pretty compelling, but Variety just shut everyone’s theories down with confirmation that the memoir is not by Taylor. As they put it, “Some yet-to-be-revealed celebrity is releasing a book in July that the publisher is promising will be a blockbuster. But Variety can report for certain that this mystery author is not, as rumored, Taylor Swift.”
However, all the Taylor buzz has already made this book a best-seller despite the fact that no one knows who wrote it. Per Variety, “4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023” is in the top 10 of Amazon’s book sales chart, and is number one on Barnes and Noble’s pre-order chart.
Whoever wrote this book better send Taylor some flowers!
