Confession: I’ve never been a huge fan of highlighter. I usually try to stick away from powder makeup since I have dry skin, and cream formulas tend to be too glittery and make me look like I’m heading to a rave rather than a casual dinner with girlfriends. I’d pretty much sworn off the product for good — until I tested a tool that completely changed the game for me. Allow me to introduce you to a product I would bet money on you loving: the KJH Brand Hyper Shine High Lite Kit ($75).
The brand was founded by Katie Jane Hughes, an editorial and celebrity makeup artist who has touched the faces of some of the most well-known celebrities in the game (think: Hailey Bieber, Ashley Graham, and Olivia Rodrigo, to name a few). She has made a name for herself on Instagram for her glowy, dewier-than-thou makeup tutorials, so a launch in the highlighter space makes sense. Plus, to know me is to know that I love everything Hailey Bieber — whether it’s her outfits, her hair, or her makeup — so the fact that the makeup artist behind her “glazed doughnut” makeup created a product that could possibly give me the same look meant I needed to test it out ASAP.

About the KJH Hyper Shine High Lite Kit
- This highlighter kit includes a potted pigment (the Hyper Shine Lite Pigment), a serum (the Hyper Shine Serum), and a synthetic-hair brush.
- The cream formula is buildable and can be used on the eyes, cheeks, lips, and the body.
- It comes in four different shades: “lite bronze,” “lite copper,” “lite gold,” and “lite pink.”
What I Like About the KJH Hyper Shine High Lite Kit
There are two key reasons why I’m obsessed with this product. One, it’s glossy instead of glittery; glittery highlighter is essentially the reason why I stopped using the product in the first place. Secondly, it’s pretty much impossible to over-apply. I tested the shade “lite gold,” and the first time I swatched it on my arm I knew I was going to fall in love. The formula is creamy, and it’s so lightweight it felt like nothing on my skin.
Also, I have dry, acne-prone skin, and I’ve found that my makeup just looks better when using this highlighter versus a powder highlighter. My skin doesn’t look cakey, and no matter how much I apply, I just look like I’m straight-up lit from within.
How to Use the KJH Hyper Shine High Lite Kit

Although the pigment can be used on its own, the brand recommends mixing a drop of the Hyper Shine Serum directly with the Hyper Shine Lite Pigment using the included brush, and then applying it to the high points of your face to get a dewy look. If you want more shine, they suggest adding more of the serum, but if you want more of a glow, add more pigment. The product can be worn under base makeup, mixed with cream blush, or worn on its own.
On the rare occasions when I decide to wear a highlighter, it’s usually the last product I put on whenever I do my makeup. I typically start out by adding one drop of the serum directly into the pot of the pigment and then mixing everything together, but I’ve found that I like it best after adding an extra drop of serum because I like the consistency to be on the thin side. Then, I use the brush in a tapping motion on the high points of my cheeks and down the bridge of my nose.
I’ve also found that the product makes a great cream eyeshadow, and I’ve been using the serum as a lip gloss and I love the look and hydration it gives me.

I’m all about less is more when it comes to products — especially when traveling — so the only annoying thing (for me, at least) is the fact that I now have to add another three products to my makeup bag. However, this kit can be used in so many different ways that giving up a little extra space is worth it to me.
