Zendaya is always one of the most anticipated celebs at the Met Gala thanks to her never-not-flawless interpretation of the theme, but sadly she didn’t show up at this year’s event. (Though, there were a buncha fake edits of her on the carpet floating around twitter, which made things somewhat confusing.)
So, why didn’t she attend the event? Zendaya didn’t offer an explanation, but her lack of appearance isn’t a huge shock considering she how busy she’s been. As Seventeen notes, Euphoria begins filming its upcoming season any day, and costume designer Heidi Bivens recently confirmed that pre-production begins this month.
Sad not to see Zendaya on the Met Gala carpet, but there’s always next year! On that note, let’s do a quick run down of her past Met Gala looks while we’re here crossing our fingers for 2024. Zendaya made her debut in 2015, wearing Fausto Puglisi for the theme “China: Through The Looking Glass.”
She then wore a rhinestoned gown by Michael Kors for 2016’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”
Zendaya stepped out in Dolce & Gabbana for 2017’s “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”
And went with this Joan of Arc-esque Versace moment for 2018’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination:”
And for Camp: Notes on Fashion in 2019? Zendaya took her cues from Cinderella in a light-up dress by Tommy Hilfiger that was pure fantasy:
In conclusion: she runs this red carpet.
