PSA: This Drugstore Hair-Dryer Brush Is Going Viral on TikTok

I’ll admit it, I have two major weaknesses. (1) A good deal (I’m a bargain shopper at heart), and (2) TikTok. So when, during my late-night scrolling, I came across multiple TikTok-ers claiming they had found a budget-friendly, multi-purpose hair dryer brush called the Elecsop 5 in 1 Hair Blower Brush Hairdryer that delivered the same blow-out results as the expensive brands for a fraction of the price, I couldn’t look away. I mean, it seemed like this blow-out tool could master everything from blow-drying to creating voluminous bouncy curls…and it would only cost me about $40? I was all in. But some things are just too good to be true, so before I started dropping the link in all my group chats telling everyone to buy it immediately, I put it to the test.

Among its near-perfect ratings are dozens of reviewers not only gushing that it works just as well as the Dyson Airwrap, but also that it’s super-light, and has a rotating cord for a tangle-free experience. It’s equipped with four attachments (below) and has a temperature range from 140 to 284 degrees. The first difference I noticed between this one and traditional hair dryer brushes? It doesn’t have a cool-down option—not ideal when you want a quick blast of cool air to set a curl in place.

    How it works

But the real test was how well it actually worked. Once I generously sprayed a heat protectant on my clean, damp hair for maximum protection, and sectioned the top half of my hair up with one of the clips, I tried styling. I started with the pre-styling dryer on the highest setting (since my hair usually takes almost two hours to get completely dry). The dryer reached its full heat pretty quickly and in 15-ish minutes, I was surprised that my hair was about 70 percent dry.

Next, I put on the heat protectant glove and switched from the pre-styling dryer to the smoothing brush attachments to bring my hair’s volume down—my goal was sleek, straight hair. And after a few minutes, I was pretty impressed by just how straight it was.

    The results

But then I was left with the age old question: Would it hold? The answer: Kinda. By the end of the day, even though my hair was mostly still straight, a few waves were starting to peek through. But after a couple more trial runs, I’m still happy with the results (especially when I follow up with my typical styling products: a palm-full of hair oil for my ends and a generous spray of a strong-hold hairspray).

Sure, it doesn’t offer the same dry times and power settings as the Dyson Airwrap, but it did fully dry and style my hair for a whole day, and only took me about 35 minutes (versus the 50 minutes it takes with a regular hair dryer followed by hair straightener). So if you want a tool hair that’s relatively inexpensive, time-saving, and gives you more styling options than a basic hair dryer, this one is worth the hype.
