Attn @ everyone! We have good and bad news to deliver on this fine Tuesday morning. The good news: Fans are eating up Suits and many are hoping for a reboot. 👀 The bad news: Meghan Markle almost certainly wouldn’t be in it.
Recently, executive producer Gene Klein—who not-so-casually worked on Suits during its entire 9-season run—opened up about the show’s renewed popularity (and a possible revival!) in the midst of it debuting on streaming giants Netflix and Peacock this year. “I’m not aware of any serious conversations. It’s just one of those things where, in this day and age, you wouldn’t be surprised if somebody called you someday. But so far, nothing that I’m aware of,” Gene said during a convo with TVLine.
A refresher: The USA Network show ended its run back in 2019, but it has recently been on the receiving end of a new surge of interest after becoming available to watch on myriad streaming services, including Netflix. And to say that it’s been crushing it is a serious understatement. Since the first eight seasons of Suits hit Netflix on June 17 (all nine seasons are available on Peacock, btw), the legal drama has consistently been in the streamer’s Top 10 TV Shows in the United States. Plus, for the week of June 29, it amassed 3.1 billion (!) minutes viewed on both streamers combined, breaking the Nielson streaming record for acquired programming. Enter: all these talks about a potential reboot.
During Gene’s interview, he confirmed he’s been in contact with the creator of the series, showrunner Aaron Korsh, about the potential for another installment and talked about what getting certain cast-members on board could look like.
“As you might remember, it was a complicated dance keeping everybody involved, getting all the actors deals done and keeping them involved through the end of the show,” the executive producer mused. “I’d be surprised if we could thread that needle for a reunion, but I’d also be delighted if that happened because [when] you do a show for that long, everybody becomes such a good friend,” he added. With an all-star ensemble cast that included Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres, Amanda Schull, Dulee Hill, *and* Katherine Heigl, something tells us it the hard work would be worth it.
Now, we know what you’re all thinking: Cool, but what about Meghan Markle?!?! Dw, Gene Klein *also* dove into that in his interview after being asked flat-out whether it was possible to get the Duchess of Sussex back on the show. His answer? “I would assume that’s just not possible.”
*Le sigh* Whelp, there you have it, folks! It’s pretty unlikely we’ll see Meghan reprise her role as Rachel Zane again, even if there is a Suits revival, so I guess we’ll have to settle for ugly crying at her 🥺 Netflix series, Harry & Meghan.
