The premiere of the 27th (yep) season of The Bachelor is upon us and, as such, lead Zach Shallcross is currently on his obligatory high-on-teases, low-on-spoilers press blitz to promote his journey for love.
Even though, as the current Bachelor, he is contractually-obligated to say as many words while conveying as little actual information about the details of his season as possible, Zach is still giving *some* insight into his tenure as Bachelor.
In a new interview with Variety, for example, he confirmed that his season has a happy ending (although he refused to define what constitutes happiness or endings when pressed for more details about the status of his love life post-show). During that interview, Zach was also pressed for some insight into his multiple tearful moments teased in the season’s promo (check it out below if you haven’t seen it yet) and he was slightly less frustratingly-dodgy (but still vague, since ABC probably has claim to his first born if he spoils his season) about the reason behind his tears.

The promo features multiple Sad Boy moments for Zach and includes Sad Boy quotes like, “I feel like a failure. I feel like I let myself down, and I feel like I let the women down,” and “I don’t even know what happened. I saw something with her. I was not expecting that.” When asked generically about his tears in the promo, Zach fully owned his status as a self-described Emotional Guy.
“The one thing that fans will know or learn about me is I’m a guy that wears my heart on my sleeve. I don’t try to hide it. I’m an emotional guy,” he said. “Those tears, it comes from a place of never wanting to really hurt anyone, and that’s a hard thing when you’re in this environment where it’s inevitable–like, people will be going home. Without giving too much away, the tears come from a place of just feeling for all the women involved and trying my best to navigate it.”
So, yeah, not a *ton* of detail, but it does sound like Zach is very comfortable with shedding onscreen tears and letting his emotions show on-camera, which is great. Semi-serious Q though—how many cocktail parties do you predict he’ll abruptly cancel due to just being emotionally not in the Right Place to deal?
