Everything You Need to Know About Alev Aydin, Halsey’s Ex-Boyfriend (and the Father of Their Child)

In case your besties aren’t still totally obsessing over Halsey’s video for “So Good,” please allow me to inform you that the *meaning* behind the project was a v personal one. Why, you ask? Well, not only does it give a super-rare look into Halsey’s life with their former partner Alev Aydin and their son, but it was also written and directed by Alev. Sadly, news broke yesterday that the duo had split, but it seems as though these two are on good terms, with a source relaying to People that “it’s an amicable split” and that Halsey and Alev are even looking into the best way to co-parent together.

Casual fans and regular folk alike first met Alev way back in January 2021, when Halsey used Instagram to drop their pregnancy news and posted the most amazing maternity shoot to the feed. Naturally, everyone started to wonder, Wait, who is Halsey dating??? but Halsey cleared up that burning question by tagging the ~mysterious~ dude in her post. JK, JK—Alev’s not all that mysterious. But because Alev is not a quintessential celeb, that means there is much to uncover about him, which I have taken the liberty of doing below for your convenience. You can thank me later!

For starters, this is what he looks like.

He’s got good genes.

He’s a writer, producer, and actor.

Alev focuses mostly on smaller indies—he’s written two TV series (Turbo and Joey and Small Shots) and produced two shorts (HipMen: Los Angeles and Felly) plus a full-length movie (Lonely Boy). He’s also acted in a few of his projects and he had a few cameos in General Hospital back in the 2000s.

Alev actually was working on writing Halsey’s biopic, but after falling in love, it kinda got put on the back burner.

He is Turkish.

Alev frequently posts a bunch of throwback photos from his childhood with Turkey as the geotag.

He and Halsey probably started dating sometime in 2020.

Paparazzi once caught Alev and Halsey shopping together at an art supply store in October 2020. Little did we know they may have been dating at the time. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

As it turns out, Alev and Halsey have known each other for a looong time now. In an interview with Allure, Halsey said, “Alev and I have been really good friends for four years. And when the stars aligned, our relationship became romantic and it was pretty evident that he and I were both like, ‘Oh my gosh! You’re the person I’m supposed to start a family with.’ A lot of people had opinions about that.”

He and Halsey got matching tattoos back in June 2020.

Swipe through to see their toe ink (yes, really) on slide four. 🙃

And here’s his baby pic:

What a cutie!

He and Halsey planned for their baby.

In Halsey’s Instagram Stories, they revealed that people have been speculating if their pregnancy was a case of family planning…or if it was an accident, which is so not cool and also nobody’s business! “Why is it okay to speculate and pass judgment about fertility and conception? My pregnancy was 100% planned, and I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just as happy even if it were another way,” they wrote.

Fast-forward to last July, and baby Ender turned 1 year old! To celebrate, the lil family had the most epic space party:

IDK about you, but I personally can’t wait to see more of their bb content. ❤️

He and Halsey split in April 2023.

News of the breakup dropped with details pertaining to the former couple’s child, including that the singer was reportedly seeking full physical custody. However, a source who spoke with People maintained that “it’s an amicable split” and that “they’re planning to co-parent.”

Another insider who spoke with Page Six added, “The split with them is totally amicable and they are co-parenting; they are going to raise their son together.” They also provided insight into Halsey’s decision to file for full physical custody, explaining that they “just had to file that way” because they are going on tour in the summer “and it’s a formality so the singer can bring their son with them.”

Aaand that’s pretty much all we know for now, but—rest assured—we’ll update you with more deets as soon as they come out.
